Dressing the bird..

In my mind, I have a picture of the ideal gear I want for Swiftpaw before I send him howling into the arena like the crazed Mana Turkey that he is. Most of this is for his own protection, as PVE gear does not cut butter in the arena and going in unprepared is more an exercise in self-loathing than anything else. So, without further ado, here’s the list:

Gladiator’s Wildhide

These pieces are all part of the Season 1 arena gear that you can now purchase for honor points and battleground tokens, which makes these relatively straightforward to collect. Besides the benefits of high armor, +spell dmg, and stamina, these pieces offer what raiding gear doesn’t– resilience. Resilience is what seperates the scrubs from the competitors and is the number one goal of anyone who’s serious about making it in arenas. The higher your resilience, the less likely it is that you’ll be crit, the less damage you take from crits, and the less damage your take from dots and other periodic effects. These should be the primary focus of all that honor you’re getting from the endless odyssey of BG running.

Badge Rewards

These pieces can all be purchased from Geras in Shattrath for the low low cost of Badges of Justice. These Badges are rewards for killing Heroic bosses and from Karazhan runs. Now, I’m horrendously opposed to raiding due to the haunting memories of endless MC and BWL runs; however, I don’t consider 10 man instances raiding. So, a full Kara run nets you 22 Badges of Justice and a few of those will put you well on your way to getting these pieces taken care of.

Other PVP Gear

The Medallion is a really nice upgrade to your standard PVP trinket. A two minute cooldown instead of five and some resilience to boot. Not bad at all. The other two pieces are… CLOTH. Yes, I know. Boo cloth. But, if you compare the stats of the Silk vs. Wyrmhide, you’ll see that Silk is slightly more offensive with +crit, while Wyrmhide has no +crit but with +mp5. Even though Wyrmhide is somewhat superior with the basic stats(stam, armor, spell dmg), the lack of +crit on Wyrmhide armor needs to be made up for somewhere and this is the best place so as not to ruin your set bonuses.

Instances, Quests, and World Drops

The rest of this gear is obtained from instancing, questing, and world drops. Not all that hard to collect and worth it to do so. The reason I have three idols listed here is the ease that anyone can construct a macro to switch out Idols on the fly depending on the spell you’re casting. There’s now no reason not to get all the Idols you can and switch as needed. Bringer of Death is the only world drop listed here, but it is easily purchased on the AH for cheap and will do until you can afford a current-season arena weapon. [Warp Engineer's Prismatic Chain]

[Ivory Idol of the Moongoddess]
[Idol of Wrath]

Once I get all this phat loot, I will finally be ready to begin my ascension of the ranks and my journey will have truly begun.
